How to Swap your Home
Most tenants can swap homes with another council or housing association tenant using a scheme called ‘mutual exchange’.
You will need to find someone to swap with yourself. This can be done by placing adverts in local shops, Post Offices etc. in the area where you wish to move to.
There is also a government nationwide scheme which you can access through the HomeSwapper website. If you do not have access to the internet please call into Lincolnshire Rural Housing offices to discuss this with a member of staff.
A Mutual Exchange must be approved by both landlords before it can go ahead but we cannot unreasonably deny the request.
When you apply for an exchange you will need to contact us direct as we will need all the information of the person/s you wish to exchange with. Name, Address, Local Connection and the name and address of their current landlord.
Before you can complete an exchange you and your ‘swap partner(s)’ need to meet certain conditions. For example:
- All of you must have a clear rent account
- Your gas and electricity payments must be up to date
- Villages with ‘local connection’ requirements you must comply with any agreements stating who has a right to live in the home; this is usually a work or family link.
